We are going with the summer batch of Nilgiri Oolong this year, for a refreshing change. It is grown in Coonoor, Nilgiri at an altitude of 6300 feet. Their motto is to preserve the leaf's character resulting in some exceptional teas. The people making this tea work hard in the misty Nilgiris bringing you this experience, the steep slopes are not an easy place to work! It is made from CR6017 cultivar, an assamica and cambod(yes!) hybrid, specially developed for growing in the Nilgiri region.
The dry leaf smells like caramel and palm candy. When placed on the heated ware, you get rose and caramel notes, with a hint of vanilla whipping cream. On your first sip, you are greeted with notes of caramel and rose once again. As you sip further, you get notes of palm candy. There's a hint of rose leaf too, adding a refreshing astringency to the tea. The aftertaste resembles rose water, reminding you of delicious Indian sweets. As you sip further, the tea gets more complex, you experience notes of guava, sweet peaches and betel leaf(paan). Once it cools down even further, you get to taste notes of saffron. A very complex and delicious tea, we are happy to have got this beautiful batch for you.
