Introducing the first oolong in our highland collection, this comes from the same estate as our winter frost teas and the recently introduced Nilgiri Curly Black Tea. The estate runs from 5400 to 6900 feet above sea level. As we have mentioned, this particular estate believes in constant innovation, from developing their own cultivars to using unique processing steps like rolling on vintage wooden trays and heating the room(for withering) using hot water instead of hot air. This is no exception and being the first oolong tea they have commercially made after years of development, we are sure this tea will leave you in awe, the same way it did to us!
The dry leaf smells flowery with hints of rose petals and chrysanthemum. When placed on heated ware, the herbal notes of chrysanthemum come to the front with a smooth white chocolate aroma. We would advise you to savour the aroma on the heated ware as it transforms from herbal to floral to fruity and creamy! The liquor has a plethora of fruity notes, the infusion starts with soft notes of peach and pineapples with the trademark rose leaf like astringency of low to mid oxidation Nilgiri teas, although it is very faint in this tea even when pushed at high ratio and temperature, just greeting you on the finish. As you sip more, you can taste some more fruity notes like Indian pear, cantaloupe and oranges, the orange note is more dominant in higher temperature brews and when the liquor falls below 55° C. The white chocolate note also translates into the liquor although tasting it can be a little tricky, if you are well versed in tasting beverages like tea, coffee or wine, you can use the classic loud slurp to experience it well. Also, this is experienced the best when the tea is extremely fresh, and this stands valid for most of the Indian teas with this particular creamy character. This is an extremely versatile tea and it would be very interesting to experience it with different brewing temperatues, ratios and styles so please feel free to go wild and deviate even completely from our suggested brewing parameters, we really wish you share your experience when you do that!
